Bakhtin’s work offers a philosophically reinforced position for Christian communication scholars. Planting his thinking in the doctrines of the Trinity and Christ’s Incarnation, his thought demonstrates the wisdom in beginning one’s study of human communication with the eternal Word. To date, scholarship inspired by the work of M.M. Bakhtin is in large part accomplished by non-Christians. A study of Bakhtin’s work that does not ignore his commitment of faith offers to renew communication theory currently too reliant upon a social constructivist paradigm.
