A Prayer about Praying, by Richard T. Young

Oh Jesus, sometime prayer feels like a chore.
On those days,
Should I pray less?
Pray more?
A chore is not a bad thing in and of itself.
But I don’t think you intend prayer to feel like one.
What am I supposed to feel when I am praying?
What should my emotional state be?
I’ve had those sessions of prayer that felt glorious.
I’ve had those communications with you that turned into communion.
Were those prayers somehow better?
Were they more right, more correct, more pleasing to you?
On those occasions when my head says words but my heart stays mute,
Is that prayer just as real?
Just as true?
Lord I just wanna talk to you.
I just wanna have a conversation with almighty God.
Thank you for the grace that makes a chat with you possible.
Thank you for hearing my voice when it comes from my head or my heart or my soul.
Thank you for prayer.
