Winebrenner Theological Seminary will be hosting a conference exploring “Sacred Rhetoric,” an interdisciplinary event devoted to the consideration of discourses of religion, both as it is depicted in various media formats and how religious practitioners discuss issues within confessional communities. The conference will take place from May 31-June 2, 2017, and seeks to bring together specialists in the fields of communication and religion to examine these matters more closely.
The plenary speakers for the event will include Dr. Ronald C. Arnett and Dr. Tom Beaudoin. You can access the website here:http://www.winebrenner.edu/Resources/SacredRhetoricConference2017.aspx
Potential paper topics cover a vast array including, but by no means limited to, the depiction of religion and religious issues in popular media, philosophies of religious language, and the discussion or presentation of ethical/philosophical debates in popular media and within religious communities.
Please send a brief 300-500 word abstract and a short c.v. by February 1, 2017, to ensure full consideration. Panels of three papers are strongly encouraged. Inquiries and abstracts should be sent to Dr. David Barbee at david.barbee@winebrenner.edu. Graduate students are welcome to apply. Please indicate if this will be your DEBUT paper.
