Presentation Title: “The Electronic Church in the Digital Age: Cultural Impacts of Evangelical Mass Media”
Date: 12/14/15 Time: 8:00-9:00 pm, EST
Description: American evangelical culture is transmitted by two institutions, local churches and the “electronic church.” Evangelical mass media today are increasingly convergent and consumed daily by one in five U.S. adults. Networks and syndicators are experienced content developers and, due to changes in media law, are huge conglomerates able to leverage all digital media platforms. Mark Ward has authored to two histories of religious broadcasting and received the Religious Communication Association 2014 Article of the Year Award for his ethnography of evangelical media. He is editor of the newly released two-volume series, The Electronic Church in the Digital Age: Cultural Impacts of Evangelical Mass Media, and will discuss key findings of the project.
