Title: “Speaking to Reconciliation: Voices of Faith Addressing Racial and Cultural Divides”
Presenter and Affiliation: John Hatch, Ph.D, Eastern University
Date/Time: Tuesday December 14, 7:30 pm EST
Description: Many societies, including our own, are deeply divided along racial, ethnic, political, or religious lines as a result of violent/oppressive histories. Bridging such divides requires symbolic action that transcends, reframes, redeems, and repairs. Hatch’s webinar unpacks the nature of this work vis-à-vis historic public addresses that have drawn upon the Judeo-Christian and other religious traditions to promote reconciliation. Such examples become tragically poignant as the United States now spirals toward seemingly irreconcilable divisions.
